BIO
A short bio….
I grew up in Tring in Hertfordshire, a town which takes its amateur dramatics seriously, and my teenage years were spent musically-directing kids shows such as "The Wizard of Oz" (1985) and "Grease" (1986) at Tring School and in the town.
After school I studied classical piano at the Guildhall School of Music, but my great love was always the guitar, and my classical piano career was never destined for greatness. Indeed, my entry into the world of professional music was a slow one, and until I was 26 I was still working at the BBC as a technical assistant. However, a couple of years later I found myself as assistant musical director of the original UK production of Rent in the West End, and out of that I landed an arena tour with Boyzone, in 1999.
Since then, my work has varied from pop tours, orchestral work, session work, West End shows, arrangement and musical direction for radio and television events.
I have been Musical Director of Magic Radio’s Christmas Show since 2015, and was Musical Director of the Olympics and Paralympics Homecoming events in 2021 (shown on BBC1 and Channel 4 respectively), and again when the Olympics returned in 2024. I was also MD of ITV’s Big Jubilee Street Party, shown in 2022 to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. In 2023 I MD’d the Opening Ceremony of the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool for BBC 1. I was also MD of ITV’s first ever New Year’s Eve show in 2022, which was recommissioned in 2023 and 2024.
